Reggie Update 02/08/12:

Hi Jim: Here is the latest update on what is going on. Reggie no longer needs someone with him during the day and the Hospice offered nothing we could not do for ourselves. So, Reggie is officially off hospice care. Today, for the first time, he went out to breakfast so he is definitely making progress. He continues to have difficulty breathing and has to use oxygen continuously. Thanks to all the emails he received from so many chiropractors and CA’s he stays positive and hopeful he will be able to attend the next New Beginnings program in April.

Great website and well researched. I love the memorabilia.

I have collected and published most of the chiropractic songs from those early days after finding them on ebay etc. You can view them and listen to snippets on the website. Most were sheet music I had professionally recorded and produced for digital distribution.

We don’t know each other but I am a practicing chiropractor of over 30 years. I am sitting here listening to your podcast on Reggie and I can’t keep from crying which is hard because i’m trying to see patients in between. With today’s publication of Thomas Lamar’s beautiful tribute to Reggie I thought that I should try to clarify what I said so poorly through all of my raw emotion. Reggie deserves credit for lighting up an entire generation of Chiropractors to understand Chiropractic philosophy, but there are so few who know that it was his crystal clear insight into that philosophy that realized one its most important implications, “Vertebraille” or what we call Advanced Muscle Palpation. It’s been my privilege to share that discovery with Chiropractors for almost 30 years now and I will continue to give him credit for this wonderful gift to the profession. Whenever I’ve had the opportunity of teaching muscle palpation I’m asked by students and Chiropractors if I discovered AMP. I wish that I could say that I had. It took Reggie’s sheer logical genius to see something that was overlooked by everyone else, but had been staring the rest of us in the face since this profession began. So I’ll thank him again here publicly and hopefully express myself a little better without getting so emotional, while there is still time. Thank you Reggie for all that you’ve done for me and for ChiropracTIC . . .

Dear Jim: Just wanted to let you know how important all those emails were to Reggie's shocking recovery. He has been getting stronger by the day and his mental alertness never varies. Tom Gregory came by to adjust him and several friends came by just to say hello and give him encouragement. Everything helps. Hi Tom,

I am from northeast Nebraska so my feeling is that my grandmother probably heard the music on the radio – possibly WOC and then purchased the sheet music. I do not remember her playing it but then again she was always playing something. I found it when after a visit back to Nebraska, i brought back 3 banana boxes of old sheet music. I proceeded to work my way through the music playing each piece as I took them out of the boxes. I was totally amazed when I lifted this piece from the box. I could hardly believe my eyes. Here I was years after my grandmother had passed, a chiropractor myself, finding this piece with BJ & Mabel on the cover. The only reason that I ended up with the music is because none of my siblings or cousins have continued to play the piano. They all said that these boxes of music should go to me, if I wanted them. Well, little did they know that perhaps it was meant for me to find this piece of music. Had any of the others found it, they wouldn’t have known anything about it I am sure.

The original I have is in excellent condition if you ever need another copy or whatever.

Thanks for your episode 105, it just confirms what I already though I knew about the lyrics and such.

Here’s the latest update as of today, Tuesday, 01/10/12:

Reggie is at home and resting comfortably. He is able to eat and speak but is very tired. He amazes the medical doctors who took his case and now even his wife and myself! This warrior has never flinched from the sword and continues to fight the battle for principle.. I truly love him for who he is! Outlaw

Hi,
I was just playing this piece of sheet music when, for some unknown reason, I thought I’d check the internet to see what I could find out about it. Imagine my surprise when I came across your video. I have the exact same piece of sheet music. I found it 7 or 8 years ago in a box of old sheet music that belonged to my grandmother. Being a chiropractor who plays the piano, not well but I play, I had to give it a try. I have been playing it off and on ever since. What a blast to hear it performed by someone other than myself.

The few short hours of SCR interviews with him has been impressed upon me in many ways. Though I have never met the man or heard him speak live he has been a mentor to me and he doesn’t even know it. I have some very sad news to share.

(Friday 01/06/12) I just received a call from Irene Gold who informed me that Reggie will not make it through the night. She is at his bed side and asked that our Chiropractic family please let the rest of the profession know.

I am honored to have had Reggie as one of our New Beginnings leaders as he was a chiropractic icon and family member at every N.B. weekend.
I ask that you share this and say a prayer in your own way for this great Chiropractic warrior.

Update on Reggie Gold…. This must be his way of saying the medical community is always wrong.. Reggie is still alive and is able to speak one word at a time. Irene has been reading all our remarks and posts to him and has been reading e-mail from the profession to him. He made it through the night but is not doing well at all. Irene has family around her at his bed side. She is so thankful that everyone here on facebook is sharing their stories and well wishes.. she will be going to our New Beginnings sites to read them later today and thanks everyone again!! I will be speaking to her daily for any changes and will post them.. Thank you one and all for being so caring,,,

Update on Reggie Gold (Sunday 11:30 a.m.)
Reggie is still struggling but will not let the hospital personal give him any drugs!!
They are now going to take him home under hospice care as he refuses anything to do with the hospital! He has regained consciousnesses and is speaking to Irene. Irene will be needing some help to watch over Reggie when he is sent home… More details on this later today and volunteers are needed to help her out with this 24 / 7… I will post again in a few.. This warrior continues to fight our fight! He will never give up.. OutlawJim. Dubel

Sunday 1:00 p.m. Reggie Gold Update..
He will be sent home for hospice care today.. He spoke to Jim Sigafoose and actually ate his first meal in days.. “ice cream”. Irene will need help at their house to be with him, for short periods of time starting tomorrow. More on this today. The medical doctors in charge said they have NEVER seen anything like this before.. he has something special…. Yes he does…. us and Chiropractic principles…

My great aunt went to the Palmer School of Chriropractic in the early 1900s as well as her husband. We have a suitcase with this simular table in it except there are no markings on it at all but it looks a lot more comfortable that the one listed above. This one is padded and is covered with a royal blue velvet and the legs are metal. It has been a mystery in our household for many years because we had no idea what it was. The suitcase has several stickers on it from various places she traveled by train. I will add the table is in great shape but the suitcase shows a little more wear. The Antique Roadshow is coming to our city in a couple of months and thought of taking it there just to see what it is worth. If anyone can shed a little more light regarding this suitcase and table I would appreciate it.

To think that you are enjoying an episode I recorded nearly two years ago is pretty darn cool…. and that fact that you are doing it on your own time to make your commute more enjoyable is fantastic… AND you are half way around the word… even more AMAZING! I too enjoyed interviewing Dr. Daniel Kamen. He’s a pretty funny guy and one who has done a lot to advance animal chiropractic. So glad that you want to become a chiropractor. A very close friend of mine, Patrick Dunphey, introduced me to your show/website. As you are aware Patrick is a prospective chiropractic student who has also ignited a flame in me to be a Chiropractor and hopefully an animal chiropractor as well. I recently started listening to your podcasts and I’m very thankful at the ease in downloading them to listen to on my own time. I have recently downloaded the first thirty episodes and listen to them on the way to and from work. I enjoy them very VERY much and find myself leaving a little bit early to take my time so that I get as much listening in as I can. Not only am I learning so much but it’s also healthier because I’m not rushing around going all crazy to get to work from leaving after the last minute not to mention the health of my car ;o)…
This episode was exceptionally enjoyable and had me laughing pretty hard at times. Thank you Dr. Lamar and your family (Logan) for putting this wealth of knowledge and material out there for anyone to enjoy. It is very refreshing listening to how close you involve your family with your show. I come from a large family myself and enjoy listening hearing your children’s voices/ My wife and I are expecting our second any day now and God willing these two are just the beginning.

I must say I too really enjoyed this particular podcast. Especially, Leola that was just absolutely amazing hearing her perspective of the introduction of radio into her home just absolutely mind boggling to think of no iPhones, iPads, DVDs, TV just a box with sound and how astonishing that was to her and her family; just crazy. That was a super Podcast! You really put a lot into this one and your love of radio really shines through. I believe you should do more themed podcasts like this one where you can produce a fun chiropractic history lesson that preserves and documents all this great stuff. Wow, I really liked this episode. 3 very effective talkers all in one show!
I met Dr Hoskins at NB. I didn’t even notice he was over 6 ft becuase he was the nicest guy. I didn’t feel intimidated then, but now that I’ve heard how articulate of a speaker he is I would never challenge this TIC to a debate! Really enjoyed this one.

i am very appreciative to the folks who defended the profession in person. I know we all signed petitions and sent in email responses. Personally, I don’t have time time to abandon my family and fight for a profession when my school loan balance increases due to the loan shark tactics I’ve had to deal with along with the Medicare/Work Comp monopoly that makes the country think the value of chiropractic is $20-27 per visit. Guess what! If I go cash my folks go to the guy down the road. Can we all just dump insurance as a united group? We’ll have more time to teach the truth about health. We should be running from health care reform. And the colleges set the tone for the public. They need reform. The colleges are the nerve roots of our fantastic healing art.

The BIGGEST Disgrace to the Chiropractic Profession is any organization who strays from the Philosophy and Principles. The CCE is a disgrace to Chiropractic and is largely the reason Chiropractic students know nothing about our Chiropractic Philosophy. Hi Lorna – thanks for commenting. Unfortunately I do not know and South African Chiropractors personally. I would suggest, asking friends and/or acquaintances who they use…. but you want to especially seek out a chiropractor who is comfortable working with children. Some, unfortunately, limit their practice to adults. Do some searching. I am sure you will find someone in short order.

Unfortunately we had a technical glitch with distorted audio in this episode. I have worked with it in post production and am much happier with it now. It’s not that it was all THAT bad… just not at the level of quality I try to bring you each time….. And depending on what type of device you were listening on, you may not have even noticed. Nevertheless, I apologize to the 146 of you that have already listen to and downloaded the subpar version of this episode. I hope you were able to overlook our technical issues and were able to glean some great energy and information from Dr. Lyle Koca. The improved version has now replaced it the old one. – dr. tom

I agree. There is something special about holding an original green book. They hold a testament of chiro history that a sterile computer screen will never have. And when you find the author’s signature in these books it is as close as you will ever come to connecting with one of the Great Ones of chiropractic.

Great article Chiropicker and Dr Steve – I know the thrill, had the honor of having Virgil Strang sign and personalize his book when I had him as a teacher in the 80′s, alot of these used books, turn out to be signed, I got Marcus Bach’s, and Chester Wilks this way – I’ve had good luck on Amazon, “used” – and the
prices are really good. I think now is a good time to be a book collector – with the rush to go digital and the younger generations lack of interest – lots of grandma and grandpa’s old books are gonna end up on the used market
